I’m not much of a poet although I was about the only person who wanted to explore the idea in Extension 2 English until that is, I succumbed to the pressure of trying to be a maths genius. Whilst I didn’t get very far with my own poetry, the time that was spent researching ‘poetry’ and ‘themes’ in order to produce our ‘major work’ opened the door to finding out things about poetry, poets and poems in general. I honestly can’t tell you much about poetry anymore, except that I have only appreciated it for a very short time.
Nowadays I seem to appreciate it no matter what form it is. I wish I could remember which English teacher it was that really inspired me to just ‘imagine’ and ‘paint a mental picture’ from the words described. That’s the beauty of any form of art it’s open for interpretation.
I am reluctant to put up any of the poetry that I have written, but over time I will read over some of them and put the ones that are appropriate online.
Meanwhile here are some of the poets whom I have come across and really enjoy:
- Cornelius Eady
- Robert Frost
- Marilyn Hacker
- Suheir Hammad
- Wilfred Owen
- Edgar Allan Poe
- William Shakespeare
- Oscar Wilde
- Hugo Williams
I assure everybody that I will eventually get around to updating these pages.
